The 46 hours train ride (1/2)

by Edwin

Today was the first day of the long train ride. I asked for a chair next to the window and got a seat on the first floor what gave me a nice view. As expected there was more to see on this ride: swamps followed by wide fields and small villages. There was a very friendly man sitting next to me and we talked from time to time during the ride. Later I also got in touch with the people sitting behind me and we spend a lot of the ride talking and taking pictures of the landscape together. Beside catching up with new people I spend the time with watching movies, playing some games of chess against the computer and do some studying. Yesterday I bought my first ebook and I have to say that I actually like reading it more than I expected. I always thought that reading a paper book is more comfortable, but reading a book on my ipad was surprisingly comfortable.

Most people would maybe not expect it, but I had really looked forward to this 46 hours train ride. Let me explain. I always got some things that I would like to do, but I don’t take the time for it when I’m home, because there is always something else to do. When you’re on a long train ride like this, you have so much time that you finally can do those things. For example, normally I don’t take so often the time to do some studying. I really want to, but most of the time I just don’t happen to do it. Yesterday I bought a book about webdesign and webdevelopment and I really enjoyed doing some study today. I hope that somehow I just can put myself to do this also when I’m back home in a couple of months. For now I just really enjoy all these hours in the train and the opportunity that it gives me to do those kind of things.

In the evening we had diner in the train, what was also a nice thing to do. The food wasn’t really special, but it’s just nice to have a diner while you see a landscape crossing behind the windows and see the sun go down. The rest of the night I had a short movie marathon, which was also nice of course.
