A slower day

by Edwin

Although I planned to sleep in this morning I already woke up around sunrise. I think I’m starting to get in the rhytm. I actually really like this dayrithm, waking up earlier in the morning. I might even try to keep up with it when I’m back home in a little more than a month. Anyway, I started driving again while the sun was rising, which gave a nice view over the valley I was crossing. It was still covered with smoke from a fire or mist from the morning.

I decided to take it a little slower today, because I already realized earlier that after a couple of intense days it takes a lot more effort to still enjoy everything. On one hand because you get used to the beautiful nature, on the other hand just because you need a break from time to time.

In the afternoon I visited Bryce Canyon National Park, but to be honest I wasn’t really impressed. Probably because I visited the Grand Canyon the other day and also because I drove through the nice rocky landscape already for multiple days.

After Bryce I went to Zion National Park and that was surprisingly quite impressive. There were big mountains and there was a superlong tunnel without lights. That was a nice experience. The only light came from some openings on the side from time to time and you had to drive slow, so it took quite a while to get through it. I arrived in the park just in time to take the scenic shuttle bus before it went dark. In the bus for the first time I met some Dutch people in the wild. It was nice to to talk Dutch again for a bit and share travel experiences.

It was almost impossible to find a free parking place in the national park, so I drove to the exit on the other side and immediately entered a small town next to the park. I went to a restaurant and decided not to watch my money tonight, because I found that I deserved a good meal today. Although I payed more than at the average fastfood place, the food wasn’t so much better to be honest. I was thinking again of my hero Jamie Oliver and really understand why he started the food revolution last year. I’m looking forward to cook a lot when I’m back home! I had parked my car next to the restaurant and stayed there for the night. Tomorrow I’ll be heading in the direction of Las Vegas.
