Hiking in the Redwoods State Park

by Edwin

Instead of hitting the road early in the morning without stopping anywhere as I planned to do last night, I started the day hiking some trails in the Redwoods State Park. I’m happy that I did that, because the nature was so beautiful! Big trees everywhere and also little creeks. After a long walk I found myself somewhere in the middle of the woods and some genius mind planted a nice bench there next to a little creek. I sat down there for a while, realizing that this was absolutely one of the most peaceful places on earth I visited so far. I took the time to rest a bit and to think about the journey, about life etc. When I felt I had thought enough about the bigger things, I made my way back to the parking place and finally hit the road again.

I planned to make many miles today, because it was still a long distance to Portland. I drove for hours and from time to time made quick stops at some coast overviews I crossed. It’s really beautiful here: you go from big woods into wide ocean views back into the woods and so on. Although I like it both very much, I really love the ocean the most. The waves are a lot bigger here and the beaches are mostly abandoned, because the water is to cold to swim. After many hours of driving I was simply to tired to go any further. I looked for a camping place and after two days without shower (sorry ladies: that’s part of the adventure) I was really happy to use a shower again. I parked my car just outside the camping place to save some money again. I’m getting used to park my car everywhere… I hope to reach Portland tomorrow.
