Driving around in Hollywood
by Edwin
Before I left Vegas in the morning I took another look at it from the 11th floor of the parking lot. I realized again that I had found a very nice ‘hotel’ here in the middle of Las Vegas. It’s interesting how everything always looks different in the morning, also Vegas. It was more quiet now and there were less people outside. A big difference with last night.
When I drove out of the city I found myself in a big desert again. The road to Los Angeles was longer than expected and even when I entered LA it was still about an hour driving on the freeway untill I was in the centre. I crossed the centre to go to a particular neighborhood where I wanted to go: Hollywood! The rest of the afternoon I spend by just driving over Sunset Boulevard and getting lost in Hollywood. Unfortunately I couldn’t take pictures, because the traffic was quite chaotic and I also missed the famous Hollywood-signs at the hill, but I had a lot of fun driving through this rich neighborhood. The houses are insane big, like small palaces and castles and you’ll see many sportcars (Ferrari, Porsche, Lambourghini) and Bently’s when you drive there. At the end of the Hollywood-trip I arrived back at Highway 1, my favourite highway next to the coast.
I just missed the sunset, so I hope I’ll see it tomorrow. It was really nice to be at the coast again, although the coast here isn’t as beautiful as further north where I started the roadtrip. This part is really commercial with many stores and camping places. When it was getting dark I stopped at a camping place next to the beach and I surprisingly met some other Dutch people of about my age. They had just started a fire next to the beach and asked me if I wanted a beer, perfect! I spend the rest of the evening with them and we watched the moon sink into the see, something I had never seen before! I have seen the sun sink into the see multiple times, but this was the first time I saw the moon doing that, I didn’t even know that that could happen. We had a lot of fun and enough to talk about since we were both traveling for longer time through America and it was around midnight again that I went back to bed. It was nice to fall asleep while hearing the waves of the sea. Tomorrow I’ll continue at highway 1 up north in the direction of San Francisco.
