On my way to San Francisco

by Edwin

I woke up at the seaside and took a quick shower at the campingplace. When I walked back to my car I saw a park ranger writing down the plates of all the parked cars. I waited till he was gone and then drove away without problems, but was a little worried if he would send a ticket via mail or so. A little later I met an American lady and talked about my worries, but she said they normally don’t do that, so I would probably be fine. I enjoyed the seasight and continued my trip via the coast.

The view became a lot more beautiful than yesterday, but it still wasn’t as pretty as on the north side of San Francisco. So my advise if you’re planning a road trip on the west coast: go north of San Francisco. Having that said, I enjoyed the journey again today and for some reason the time went by really fast today. Around noon I had a quick breakfast somewhere and before I knew it the afternoon was already over again. It was getting dark faster than I wanted so I continued driving in the evening. I made a quick stop in Santa Cruz and checked out the Attraction Park at the beach, something I was curious about, but what wasn’t as impressive as on the pictures I had seen. I continued driving till later in the evening.

When I became really hungry and a bit tired and I saw a big yellow M, I decided it was time to stop for today. I had diner at Mc Donalds and went to bed in my car. At about 03.00AM I suddenly woke up when I heard one or more dogs barking next to my car and someone was shining with a flashlight in my car. Then I heard him reporting my car at the radio and I knew it was a police officer. I opened my door and he asked for my id and where I came from. I told him where I came from and summed up most of the states where I had been so far and that this would probably be the last night of my road trip. When he heard that I am from the Netherlands all the problems were solved. We had a nice short chat and he told that he proposed his wife four years ago in The Hague. I wished we could talk longer with each other, but he already told me that everything was ok and I should go back to sleep.

I tried to fall back to sleep, but that costed me about two hours. That’s what happened when someone wakes you up in the middle of the night. 😉 But it was a good thing to be awake, because it gave me the time to think about many things and also gave me some new business-ideas. Eventually I felt asleep and I didn’t woke up again until sunrise.
