San Francisco!
by Edwin
Today was again one of the best days of my journey so far. We went to San Francisco. Before we left from home, Steve and Dawn told me to bring a sweatshirt with me. I didn’t use my sweatshirt so much yet, so I was quite surprises. When we arrived I was very happy that we brought sweatshirts with us, because it was a lot colder at the coast. We arrived San Francisco via the Bay Bridge which is the second longest bridge from the world, huge! Halfway the bridge the skyline of San Franciso appeared. It made me think back of the first time I saw the skyline of New York a couple of weeks ago. Later that day the skyline of San Francisco made me also think of Greece, because there are so many white houses facing the coast, it’s really beautiful!
We took a guided tour with a bus and we had the best seats at the front on top of the bus. There was no roof on the bus, so we enjoyed the nice cold wind the most of the ride. The weather is really nice in San Francisco. You have the warm sun and the really cold wind, coming from Alaska. The bus driver happened to be a guy from Russia, so it was quite funny to have the whole tour with a Russian accent. It was a very good idea to take the tour bus, because we saw the most of the city. We crossed a lot of different neighborhoods, from Chinatown to the more expensive area’s like Richmond. Halfway the tour we arrived the Golden Gate Bridge. I was so excited to finally see this famous bridge in real life. It’s one of the things you’ve seen so many times at pictures and in movies and then you finally see it with your own eyes, that’s so awesome. After we arrived back at Pier 39, where we started the tour, we went in the car again to go back to the Golden Gate Bridge to see it another time.
It was almost sunset, so everything turned in beautiful colors. We crossed the bridge to get a nice view from the hills at the other side. Steve was very tired, so he stayed in the car. Dawn and I climbed on one of the last hills at the west side. There were a lot of trees at the hill, but suddenly there appeared a wide view behind the trees. It was the pacific ocean! This was for me absolutely the most impressive moment of the day. Realizing that you’re at the west coast of America and there’s nothing but the big wide ocean there. The sun was going down and it was so breathtaking beautiful. There are no words to describe that feeling, you should see that for yourself.
We took many pictures from the hills at the other side of the Golden Gate bridge. I also shoot a short movie again (see down here), since it was already a long time ago since I made a movie the last time. When the sun was almost down we headed back home, because we still had two hours to drive again. Back home we relaxed with a movie and pizza’s. I really have a great time here. We do a lot during the days, which is both exciting and exhausting, but every days ends with relaxing at home what gives enough energy for the next day. 😎
