Another day in the ‘little alps’

by Edwin

In the morning I went downtown to Joseph again to spend some time in one of the local restaurants with wifi. I got in touch with some friends and family again and did the necessary e-mails. The restaurants here look really American as you know it from the movies. Besides getting in touch with people I also already took a look at the map again, because tomorrow I’ll continue my roadtrip in the direction of Montana.

Around noon I went back to the cabin, because we had some nice plans for the afternoon. We took the tramway (in Dutch we would say something like ‘stoeltjeslift’) up to one of the heighest mountains of the area, even higher then the one I climbed yesterday with the horse. It’s not without a reason that they call this area ‘the Little Alps’. At top of the mountain there was, as you can expect, a beautiful view of the area. I walked around for a while seeing the landscape on the different sides of the mountain. Back at the central point of the mountain we started feeding the squirls with some nuts we brought with us. Sadly there weren’t as many squirls as expected, probaby because the weather started to change. Altough it were only a couple of squirls, I managed to take some really nice pictures of them. I don’t know how many squirls I already have seen here in America (they seem to have plenty of those little fellows), it’s still funny to watch them.

We went back to the cabin later that afternoon and that was a good idea, because the weather started to change. Not to bad, but it just wasn’t as bright and shining as the previous days anymore. We hang out at the cabin for a while watching tv (something I don’t do so much while traveling, so it’s fun to do from time to time) and relaxing. In the evening we went back to the local pub where we also were last night, to get some diner. It’s interesting to see that the average age here is quite high. I heard that most young people leave towns like this when they go to college and that they don’t come back after. It were some nice and relaxing days here in Joseph, Oregon and I’m ready again to continue my roadtrip tomorrow.
