Playing piano on the streets

by Edwin

Today Jennifer and I went to downtown Denver, which was mainly one big shopping street. We went out shopping for Jen and hang out in downtown the rest of the day. What was really nice was that on the main street they placed many old piano’s. Seventeen pianos to be exact. They are all painted really nice, but have an awful sound. That didn’t stop my of playing them and so wasn’t the fact that I can’t play at all. In the afternoon Jen teached me the first tones of ‘für Elise’, so I’m making some progress. Still I think I scared some people away with my playing, but at least we had a lot of fun.

In the afternoon I contacted another friend of mine, Jon, which I met in New York a couple of weeks ago and who lives in Denver too. He happened to work just around the corner of the main shopping street so we decided to have diner together in the evening. We went to a big, real American burger place which was a lot better than all the fast-food I had last weeks. It was nice to catch up again and just like in New York we had a lot of fun together. Jon is a real American and funny guy and it’s nice to hang out with him.

We actually didn’t do so much today, but that’s nice for a change. Like I mentioned before: a road trip is exciting, but also quite exhausting. So it’s nice to have a break from time to time. It’s also nice to sleep in a real bed again and being able to shower as often as I want. The cool thing about a road trip is that you appreciate the normal things a lot more. You don’t realize it how blessed you are if you have a house with a bed and a shower until you have to do without for a couple of weeks. Then you’ll appreciate it a lot more. I can really enjoy those simple things these days.
