80 Days in America

In the morning I first went back to the waterfalls to see if my tripod was there somewhere. I hiked back up, but didn’t found anything and also at the visitor centre of the waterfalls there hasn’t been anyone that returned it. It was quite discouraging to be honest, because I still had a bit of hope it would work out. When I was back at the car I wrote an e-mail to my insurance company, hoping that they’ll cover it. It just sucks, but when live gives you lemonsโ€ฆ Read the rest of this entry »

One day in Seattle

Early in the morning I woke up at the parking place behind Starbucks, happy that no one else woke me up that night. I went inside my favorite coffeeplace for a while to have breakfast, doing some e-mails and updating the blog. Although It’s not my goal to make any advertisement for Starbucks, it’s worth to mention how much I feel home there. It’s just that these coffeeplaces look the like all over the world: a nice environment, most of the time some old jazz music and nice coffee, I really like it. Read the rest of this entry »

Getting lost in Seattle

While I was planning to have a relaxed day, it totally didn’t turn out to be one. I woke up again in the back of my car, starting to feel like home there ๐Ÿ˜‰ and drove to the nearest gas station to fill my car back up. Then I followed the instructions of my travelguide to drive via the Columbia River which was a very beautiful drive. Halfway I crossed the so-called ‘Bridge of the Gods’ a really old, metal bridge which brought me to the other side of the river where it was even more beautiful. Read the rest of this entry »

In Between

This morning I slept in a bit, because I didn’t set the alarm clock. I was so tired last night that I thought it would be a good idea to get some extra sleep. Around 10.30am I woke up and drove again for a bit. In the next small town I suddenly saw a big sign with ‘Pancakes’ on it, that seemed like a good idea for breakfast to me. It was a great idea, I had a superdelicious pancake with strawberries and whipped cream. I enjoyed breakfast, updated the blog and did some e-mails for work. Read the rest of this entry »

Hiking in the Redwoods State Park

Instead of hitting the road early in the morning without stopping anywhere as I planned to do last night, I started the day hiking some trails in the Redwoods State Park. I’m happy that I did that, because the nature was so beautiful! Big trees everywhere and also little creeks. After a long walk I found myself somewhere in the middle of the woods and some genius mind planted a nice bench there next to a little creek. Read the rest of this entry »

Avenue of the Giants

When I woke up the first time this morning it was still dark, the second time the sun came up and I was happy to start another day. I didn’t see any native Americans last night, in fact fortunately no one disturbed my sleep ๐Ÿ™‚ The bed in the back of my car isn’t so bad at all. When I drove to this place last night, in a flash I had seen a Starbucks-sign next to the freeway. So I turned back in that direction and just when I started to doubt if I had dreamt it, there it raised up like a spring in the dessert: some prove of civilization here in the middle of nowhere, thank God for Starbucks! A beautiful ride turned out in a scary ride in the end

Because I enjoyed my own cinema in the back of my car till late in the night, I didn’t wake up early this morning. It felt good to sleep in for a bit. After a fresh shower (which is a nice luxe these days, even if the shower is way to small for a tall Dutch guy like me) I started the day with some work that needed to be done. There was a public wifi connection at the camping place which I thankfully used. Around 01.00pm I started my journey again Read the rest of this entry »

Following the coast line

Because I went to bed early last night, I also woke up early again. Around 7.30AM I woke up in the back of my car, happy that no one else woke me up during the night ๐Ÿ˜‰ I have to say that it’s a nice and exciting experience to sleep in the back of my car and brush my teeth somewhere at the parking place. Before I hit the road today I wrote the blogpost of yesterday, because I didn’t know when I would be online again. I also went to the local market to do some grocery and then I continued my journey. The road adventure has begun!

I started the day with doing some shoppings for my road trip. I got myself an air mattress, I could borrow a sleeping bag an pillow from Dawn and Steve and I got myself a lot of water in a cooling box. I packed my bag and said goodbye to Dawn and Steve. It was quite sad to say goodbye to them, but fortunately we see each other again in a couple of weeks. Read the rest of this entry »

Preparing for the road trip & visiting an old cowboy city

Today I started preparing for the road trip that’ll start tomorrow. I packed my bags, did the laundry and planned the route for the first couple of days. I chatted with one of my travel friends and had to admit to her that I’m a bit nervous for this trip. She told me: “It’s just the unknown”. That’s exactly what it is. Not knowing exactly where you go, who you meet and where you’ll sleep, that’s quite exciting. Read the rest of this entry »
